The Purpose of Virtual Events

Virtual events are a necessity these days, but the information provided and the outcomes remain the same as any in person meeting.. To accomplish a successful virtual meeting you will still follow the basic meeting management steps used for any successful meeting.

First you need to decide on the audience you wish to attract and their relationship to the organizatiom. Then establish the goals and objectives of the planned meeting. As part of this process you will also need to consider how your audience absorbs information and learns. There are a number of different ways and everyone has their own preference(s).

There is the auditory learner and these folks are good listeners. As such, they are the easiest to successfully accommodate in the virtual world..

Visual learners are also pretty easy to accommodate virtually as long as the presenter has a detailed presentation with pictures, diagrams and the like to accompany the lecture. These attendees learn best through observation.

Hands on learners can be something of a challenge. they depend on their sense of touch and depend on actually trying, manipulating and experimenting with the topic. Even in person event sometimes have a problem here unless samples can be shared with the attendees.

Verbal learners need to be able to speak, ask questions and maybe even debating the topic in question. Logical learners like to systematically explore the facts and patterns of the topic to have it make sense to them. This can be accomplished with an interactive virtual event.

Social learners like interaction such as group discussions and collaboration with others while solitary learners prefer to work alone and focus on the task. they are intrapersonal according to something I read somewhere and prefer self study. Social learners can be accommodated by with a discussion board or on line chat room. Solitary learners are are obvious and easy.

Now you can’t support all learning styles all of the time, even in live meeting settings. However, being aware will help when planning a program, selecting the platform for a virtual meeting and briefing your speakers/presenters on their delivery.

Comments. Can you think of other ways to address the various learning styles in a virtual meeting?
